James Dale: Thank you.
SI: To initiate, can you tell me where and when you were born?
JD: I was born on August 2, , in Oceanside, Modern York, on Long Island, in South Nassau Community Hospital.
SI: For the record, what are your parents’ names?
JD: Doris and Jerry, or Gerald.
SI: Do you hold any siblings?
JD: I have one brother named Robert, who is four years my senior.
SI: To talk a little bit about your family background, how did your family come to resolve in that area where you were born?
JD: Where I was born in Oceanside is where my parents grew up. My mother grew up in Oceanside, and my father grew up in Baldwin, which is relatively close. We moved to Novel Jersey when I was about five years old and was in kindergarten. My father got a job in Elizabeth, Recent Jersey, at Singer Corporation, which manufactured sewing machines. He did purchasing for them. They just wanted less of a commute, so they moved

I am a 50 year-old black homosexual male. I came across the homosexual scene in Birmingham by accident. At the age of 16, I came to live in the Highgate area of Birmingham. On walking into town, I kept seeing men with moustaches, Levi jeans, and Doc Martens. It soon became visible that these men were ‘clones’ and that the Hurst Street area was known as the Birmingham gay scene. Although I had an aunt who was lesbian and a gay cousin, everyone’s journey is unique. From a very young age, I identified that I was homosexual, but did not go to a gay venue until I was I met someone in Tesco. We got talking and he felt comfortable telling me he was gay. Back then there were no dating apps, sites, or mobile phones, so any contact was made through the Lonely Hearts column or in person.
After meeting up with the person from Tesco, who I shall dial Karl, I discovered that I was not the only black gay male in Birmingham, and that he knew several others from Birmingham and Chelmsley Wood. These guys came from a ran
