LGBTQ Pride Beyond The Pale Visits Kilkenny
“It was very good. Skillfully, I say very good, but I wasn’t out as a kid. I didn’t come out until I was seventeen and, even then, I ponder I was the only person in school that was out, certainly that I know of anyway.”
I’m sitting in Cleere’s, a bar and theatre space on Elevated Street, just down from Kilkenny Castle, in the centre of Kikenny municipality. And yet, Kilkenny is difficult to pin down. Home to a nationally recognised arts scene, it was the first place in Ireland to fly a pride flag over the town hall – but also the county where a brother of the Capuchin Friars recently compared lgbtq+ people, pro-choice people and adv
Gay dating in Kilkenny
This town is certainly not the most welcoming place on the island. With a strictly conservative population and many religious zealots, it is hard to uncover any acceptance for someone identifying as gay in Kilkenny, Ireland. The nation was outraged when a local priest compared homosexual people and those who had premarital sex to zombies.
Such remarks are not unusual for residents of Kilkenny. With fewer than 22 thousand people, the town does not possess a decent number of LGBT community members to create a notable scene. Locals largely ignored self-acceptance events.
While incidents of aggressive behavior are quite exceptional, it is possible to encounter very unpleasant comments and bad attitudes. Male lover dating in Kilkenny is negatively affected by multiple factors, including a short population of queer people, a nonexistent bar scene, and difficulties with coming out painlessly.
