In the new mean girls is regina gay

Mean Girls came out in , which is so difficult to believe because it remains so ingrained in pop culture and absolutely iconic nearly 20 years later&#;which, yes, that makes me feel hella aged, so let&#;s just move on.

While the movie purports to be about Cady&#;s journey from outcast to Mean Teen to Regular Teen, the real luminary of the present is Queen Bee herself Regina George. She&#;s vicious, a fashion icon, dumb rich, and also a closeted gender non-conforming girl. And I have proof.

As the leader of The Plastics, she has an image she needs to uphold: the popular, stunning &#;It&#; girl with the hottest guy as her crush. There&#;s no room for her to be queer, especially if she wants to keep her social standing. In addition, this was Gay marriage was still over a decade from existence legalized in America, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer had just killed off one of their only lesbian characters the year prior. Needless to tell, it wasn&#;t an awesome time to be a lesbian.

The evidence shows itself in Regina&#;s attraction to Cady: &#;You&#;re, like, really pretty.&#; Sure, girls dial each other

Mean Girls is gay now. At least that’s what the press about the new movie musical indicates.

It’s not an inaccurate evaluation. Though Damian was always gay, in this iteration, Jaquel Spivey brings his larger-than-life Broadway flair to the role. The biggest change is the personality of Janis, played by the talented Auli'i Cravalho. In the film, the gossip about Janis (Lizzy Caplin) is that she’s a lesbian, but she puts this rumor to bed by dating Kevin G (Rajiv Surendra) in the epilogue. In the new movie, Janis is gay for real, and thus the rumors are not really rumors anymore.

Spivey and Cravalho bring a lot to their roles, which haven’t changed all that much since Spivey’s Damian is unapologetic in his flamboyance, as is this updated Janis. Cravalho is well-cast in the role. Her vocals are first-rate, but i

With a Mean Girls reimagining around the corner, let&#;s take a look at the theories surrounding its iconic villain&#;s sexuality

BY NIC CROSARA

The Mean Girls film is a staple high school film. Decades after its release and many of us are still dressing up as the iconic characters for Halloween and regularly quoting the film. It&#;s a queer classic and its hopefully about to find even queerer in the musical movie imagining.

Bisexual actor and musician Reneé Rapp will be stepping into the pink steep heels of iconic villain Regina George (she also previously portrayed the traits in the Broadway musical). And recently the actor posted a mirror selfie to Instagram with the caption reading: &#;Regina George was a lesbian.&#;

While LGBTQIA audiences around the earth are expecting the upcoming take on Mean Girls to be more overtly queer than the authentic, there have been many fan theories surrounding the iconic villain&#;s sexuality. And Reneé&#;s recent post makes it seem that she is in total contract.

For the uninitiated, the original Mean Girls production follows Cady H
