Crete is one of the Biggest islands in Greece and is well known for its archaeological sites and its wonderful variety of beautiful landscapes and beaches. The traditional cuisine plays also a big part for the travellers visiting from all over the world this particular destination, as it is delicious and for suitable for all tastes. When it comes to the capital of Crete, Heraklion, is the uppermost places to delight in all these and of course exposure first hand the ''secret'' LGBT community entertainment.
Heraklion Town, alongside Hersonissos and Malia, features a relatively organised gay nighttime scene including several gay and gay-friendly venues dispersed through the city. Lgbtq+ acceptance in Heraklion is at beautiful high levels, even though the locals choose to hold their sexuality a secret as they still follow a very traditional way of living. Thanks to the first Gay Pride in Crete that happened in the queer scene is a lot better than it was with many locals discovering more and more their sexuality.

Crete was one of our first vacations as a gay couple and although there isn’t a huge gay scene in Crete we felt very welcome on this beautiful island and possess returned many times since!
Crete is the largest island in Greece offering everything from beautiful gentle sand beaches, to rich historical sights, a thriving nightlife scene and mountains inland to investigate by car.
During our trips we had no issues being queer in Crete and felt particularly comfortable around the touristy areas. The most popular destinations in Crete for gay travellers are typically Heraklion, Chania, Rethymnon, and Agios Nikolaos, as well as Malia (where there is a young party crowd).
