Review: “Is God anti-gay" (2nd Edition) by Sam Allberry
If you’re favor me, when "Is God Anti-Gay?" by Sam Allberry was first published in , you found it a helpful and informative read. I was surprised when an updated version was recently released. But what are the differences in the two editions?
Changes
Thankfully Sam hasn’t changed his stance or theology, but his terminology. Rather than using the descriptor ‘homosexual’, he now uses ‘same-sex attracted’ (SSA). The original book was 91 pages long, this is pages. Sam explains that the focus in the world has shifted in the last 10 years from asking, “What does the Bible says about gay people?” to “Is Christianity good news at all for same-sex attracted people?” The objection is that Christianity can’t be good news for lgbtq+ people, but Sam wisely points people to Jesus first before explaining why it is. He has added more questions: “Does Jesus ever mention homosexual relationships?” and “Aren’t people just born this way?” The end of chapters now have more vacuum to answer each question.

Author and speaker Sam Allberry has expanded and restructured his best-selling manual, which draws on his hold experience as a believer who experiences same-sex attraction. As skillfully as exploring Bible passages that talk directly about homosexuality, this new edition frames the whole discussion with Jesus' general instruction on sex and marriage, as well as what Jesus teaches about finding ultimate satisfaction and happiness. It also challenges the current culture narrative, which inextricably ties sexuality to personal individuality, and he shows that the gospel is good news for everyone, whatever their sexual orientation.
This sensitive exploration of the Bible's teaching on sexuality has been written to help both Christians and non-Christians struggling with the Bible's teaching on this issue, whether they experience same-sex attraction themselves or not.
