Representation, whether plain as a terrible eyebrow job or as subtle as a carefully coordinated outfit, is gradually but surely growing for the LGBTQ+ community in Hollywood.
More and more actors are coming out and opening up about their gender, emboldened by the lesser potential for backlash aimed in their direction. While some select to maintain their privacy – not out of fear but out of “God, the paparazzi are getting on my nerves about this!” – others proudly announce engagements, show breakups for all the world to see, and post their vacation snaps featuring their beloved partners – and sometimes kids too!
We still aren't where we need to be when it comes to equal treatment and opportunity for a lot of folks in Show Business but with the list of openly famous homosexual stars growing each year and the support for them following suit, it's only a matter of time before the score evens out.

The public and personal Rock Hudson
A Hollywood producer once called him "Prince Charming" – a fitting nickname for a man whose life seemed, for most of it, like a storybook. Rock Hudson started steaming up the screen in the s, and continued for nearly four decades, in more than 60 films. But today he's perhaps overlooked, said documentary director Stephen Kijak.
Smith asked, "Why do you ponder his name is not up there with the James Deans and the Marilyn Monroes?"
Kijak replied, "I don't recognize. I think it's partly because the legacy ends up just being, 'Oh, Rock Hudson was that actor who died of AIDS.'"
But now, in his new HBO documentary, "Rock Hudson: All That Heaven Allowed," Kijak explores Hudson's whole life, as a global celestial body, and closeted male lover man. In the documentary, Hudson's ally Ken Jillson said, "Our social being with him was very private. We didn't go out to restaurants. We would go to Rock's house. It was called the Castle."

Now that gay actors like Nathan Lane, Jim Parsons, Victor Garber, Jonathan Groff, and Neil Patrick Harris are &#;out of the closet&#; and on the rise, it&#;s challenging to imagine just how different things were in the relatively recent past.
